Floral Bandana Crochet Pattern

Bandanas are one of the easiest things to crochet. They are a quick project, but are beautiful and useful, if you are someone who is wearing bandanas a lot or know someone who would love it as a gift. So here’s a free floral bandana crochet pattern for you!

Sizing

The size of the bandana depends on the hook size and the yarn that you use, and also how many repeats you decide to make. I created two different bandanas, with the red one having one more additonal repeat, but this bandana was crocheted with a lighter yarn and a smaller hook. The purple bandana was crocheted with thicker yarn, a larger hook and one less repeat, so you can compare the sizes between the two.

Pattern notes

  • This pattern is customizable, so it can easily be converted into a shawl. You can simply continue doing the repeat and skip crocheting the straps in the last row.
  • Throughout this pattern the first st of the row will be a stacked single crochet (stsc), however you can replace it with a ch 3 or a standing double crochet.

Materials needed

Yarn of your choice (I used sport weight; however, you can use whatever you have on hand)
Crochet hook (I used size 3.5 mm; however, use the hook size that your chosen yarn requires)
Darning needle
Scissors
Stitch markers

Sc – single crochet
Stsc – stacked single crochet

Repeat: rows 13-16
Please remember that the repeat sequence will go up by 1 with each repeat you do, meaning that each time you repeat these rows, one more flower will be added to the bandana or shawl.
For example:
For rows 13-16, you should repeat every sequence once, last row twice.
For rows 17-20, you should repeat every sequence twice, last row 3 times.
For rows 21-24, you should repeat every sequence 3 times, last row 4 times.
And so on.

Once you have made enough desired repeats, move onto finishing rows 1-3.

For the bandana made for this pattern tutorial, I made one more repeat (20 rows in total) before moving onto the finishing rows. You can do more if you want.

For a shawl, you can continue repeating this pattern and then crochet finishing rows 1-3 but note that you do not need to crochet the straps in finishing row 3.

Rows 17-19 added:

Finishing rows & straps

Finishing row 1 (RS): Turn your work, do not chain!

Finishing row 3 (RS): Now we will start making the straps.
Make a chain for about 35 cm in length. Then sl st into the back bump of every chain until you reach the edge of the bandana.
Into the next st, crochet 1 dc. Then into the next st, crochet 1 hdc. Into the ch 2 space, crochet 1 sc.
1 sc into the next 2 st and 1 sc into the ch 2 space.
Next, crochet 1 sc into every st across until you reach the next ch 2 space.
1 sc into the ch 2 space and 1 sc into the next 2 st.
1 sc into the ch 2 space.
1 hdc into the next st and 1 dc into the last st of the row.
Now we will make the second strap.
Make a chain for about 35 cm in length. Then sl st into the back bump of every chain until you reach the edge of the bandana.

Cut off your yarn and fasten off.

Weave the yarn tail into the body of the bandana to connect the second strap with the bandana.

Weave in the yarn tail from the beginning as well.

Your bandana is now complete!
