If you are a fan of all things floral, then this cardigan is perfect for you! The length of the cardigan is customizable – I crocheted it long, but you can keep it cropped or hip-length if you desire. The cardigan is raglan style, meaning that you will start crocheting the yoke first and then separate the sleeves from the body. Since the cardigan is short-sleeved, I recommend finishing the sleeves off first and the continue on with the body, especialy if you are using ombre yarn cake as I have. As the last step, you will crochet the outline of the cardigan and straps in the front to be able to tie the cardigan together.
The pattern for this cardigan is written for one size only and will fit the best for someone who wears M/L. Of course, by using a different hook size and different yarn the size can be altered.
Pattern notes
- Each row in the pattern instructions has its own repeat that helps with the floral construction. The flower pattern will be written once per row and the rest of the instruction for that row will let you know where you need to repeat the flower pattern.
- Throughout this pattern the ch 3 at the beginning of the row counts as a dc. If you prefer to use any other way of beginning your rows, you may replace ch 3 with your preferred method.
- Yarn usage depends on how long you want your cardigan to be. For the cardigan made for this tutorial I used an entire cake of YarnArt Flowers which is 200 g / 1000 m.
- There are pictures throughout this pattern to help you with the flower construction. Additional pictures are only available in the paid version of the pattern.
- Blocking is optional. I blocked the cardigan made in this tutorial from armpits until the bottom to straighten the edges and give the cardigan a cleaner look.

Separating Sleeves from the Body
Row 23 (RS): Ch 3, turn
First will be the front section.
Dc into the first st (increase). This will be the last increase of the front section. You can add a stitch marker to this row as this will be the row where we will add the front strap later when crocheting the border.
Dc in the next 44 st. 1 dc into the ch 2 space of the corner.
Next is the sleeve section, which you need to skip and jump over to the next ch 2 corner space.
Crochet 1 dc into the next ch 2 corner space. You have now connected your first sleeve.
Next will be the back section.
Dc into the next 93 st. 1 dc into the ch 2 corner space.
You have reached another sleeve section. Skip the sleeve and jump over to the next ch 2 corner space and crochet 1 dc. You have now connected your second sleeve.
Last is the front section.
Dc in the next 44 st. 2 dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 3 below (increase). This will be the last increase of the front secion. Add a stitch marker as you will be adding a strap there later when crocheting the border.
(Sts: 187 dc, not including the ch 3 at the beginning)
Please note! If you are using a gradient yarn cake to make this cardigan, cut off the yarn, fasten off and jump to the sleeve section. This way your sleeves will be the same or similar color. After completing the sleeves, re-join the yarn to where you previously cut it off and continue crocheting the body section.
If you are using a yarn that has the same color scheme throughout the skein/cake (single color; variegated color) then you can continue making the body and crochet the sleeves at the end of the project.
Sleeves
The construction of the sleeves is very simple and gives you a little room to play with the length.
If you do not wish to add any length to your sleeves, you can simply join your yarn and add 2 rows of sc into every st around to give the sleeve a nice and finished look.
As I was using gradient yarn for this project, I wanted to add a bit of sleeve but couldn’t do a long one since I still wanted to be in the same color when I joined the yarn back to the body. I opted to adding 1 row of dc and 2 rows of sc to my sleeve.
Row 1:
Join your yarn being on the right side of your work in the one of the dc stitches that we used to connect the sleeve underneath the armpit.
Start with a ch 2 – it does not count as a st – and add a dc into every st of the row.
See the image below on how to add dc in the corners that we joined earlier.
At the end of the row, sl st into the first dc of the row.
Please note! If you want to add more rows of dc, then after chaining 2 at the start of each row be sure to turn your work.
Row 2:
Ch 1, do not turn your work. Add 1 sc into every st around.
At the end of the row, sl st into the first sc of the row.
Row 3:
Ch 1, do not turn your work. Add sc into the first st and 1 sc into every st around.
At the end of the row, I suggest using invisible joining method to give the sleeve a clean edge (explained under row 3 of border). However, you can simply sl st to the first sc of the row, cut off your yarn and fasten off.
Repeat the same steps for the other sleeve.

Repeat rows 24-35 until you reach the desired length (I made 3 more repeats, in total 4, for the cardigan made in this tutorial). During the last round of repeat, end on row 34. Do not cut off your yarn! Instead move on to the border section.
Border
Make sure you are on the right side of your work when you start making the border (after you ch 1 and turn your work). If you ended on row 34 of the repeat, then you will be.
Row 1: Ch 1 and turn.
Start by crocheting 1 sc into every st in the bottom of the cardigan.
When you reach the end, add 2 extra sc into the last st – in total 3 sc in one st – to turn the corner. You can add a stitch marker to the middle (2nd) sc if needed. The middle st of 3 sc at the corner will be where we will crochet 3 dc in the second row.
You will then reach the side of the cardigan.
Crochet 2 sc into each dc row. Make your stitches loose so the border is not pulling.
When you reach the row with the stitch marker (last row of increase), remove it temporarily, add 2 sc into that row and add the stitch marker back into one of the stitches.
Continue until you reach the neckline. We have already existing stitches in the neckline, so add 1 sc into each st.
Continue adding 2 sc into each row on the side of the cardigan.
When you reach the bottom, add 3 sc into the last st to turn the corner.
Sl st to the top of the first sc of the round.
Row 2: Ch 1, do not turn your work!
1 sc into each st. When you reach the corner, add 3 sc into the middle st of the corner.
Before you reach the end of the round, add another 3 sc into the middle st of the corner and then sl st into the first sc of the round.
Row 3: Ch 1, do not turn your work!
1 sc into each st. When you reach the corner, add 3 sc into the middle st of the corner.
Crochet until you reach the stitch marker. Now we will start making the first strap.
Sidenote: if you are not interested in tying the cardigan in the front, you may skip making the straps and instead continue crocheting 1 sc into every st across.
Make a chain about 50 cm long. Afterwards, sl st in the back bump of every st.
Then continue crocheting 1 sc into every st until you reach the second stitch marker. Make the second strap.
Crochet 1 sc into each st until you reach the corner. 3 sc into the middle st of the corner.
After crocheting your last st, keep your hook in place and cut off your yarn. Leave a tail long enough to weave in.
Next, pull the hook up until you pull the yarn through the st.
Grab a darning needle and thread your needle using the yarn tail.
Insert the needle into the first st of the row, under the top V, and push the needle through from front to back.
Then, with yarn being on the back side of your work, insert the needle in the middle of the top V of the last sc of the row.
This method joins the first and the last st of the row while creating a fake st that looks like the other ones.
Pull the yarn tight until the fake st is the same size as the rest of your stitches. From this point on, you can weave in the tail and cut off the rest of the yarn.
